Darkness had to be overrated. Really, what was so bad about it? Sure, when you were a kid you were afraid of the dark because that was when all the scary monsters came out to kill you… But did anything every come out to get you? No. Not once. What makes that fear of the darkness? The insecurity that we hold as juveniles, or just the fact that we were never told what would ever come out of what we don’t understand? That gruesome movie you stayed up the previous night to hide behind the living room couch when you were supposed to be in bed hours ago might contribute to the reason of having a fear of the blackness… But it was from that fear that we eventually were told to stand up to our fears, and we did, and only then were we able to face that darkness – and the monsters that were possibly lurking within it. That courage was merely in the place of fear due to misunderstanding… We did not know the darkness therefore did not know what could result from it.
You could say that the Planet, our Gaia, was no different. The world we live on, thrive on – it had many mysteries within its churned soil that we could not possibly come to understand. But that was why we had scientists, geologists, travelers, wonderers, examiners and those that merely sought the truth behind the happenings of every day things. Why was the sky blue? Was it because the ocean was stuck in the sky and drained away at night to reveal the black soil of white pearls? Or was it really the refraction of light so that only the color blue could escape the spectrum? Why do people die… only to be born again? Many of these questions daunted and confused people for many, thousands of years. But now we’ve come to understand, so we have the courage to stand up to what we no longer know anything of.
The Lifestream. The pulse and center of all life and living organisms on the Planet; surely it was the one causing all these catastrophes in which the Planet ignites to survive and prosper. Why the grass grows greener on the other side, why dirt is brown, why people die and are reborn… It was all because of the Lifestream. The Lifestream helped our glorious Planet flourish, and give equal life and enormity to all that lived upon her soil. The people cherished their Planet and gave it equal praise in return, in hopes they would live a long and happy life, and be reborn with the same. To what the people give their Planet, it returns in the circle of Life, the law and order to the galaxy in which all living organisms must obey. Only then can they be assured of true happiness in life after death… their Promised Land.
That was, forever, how the Planet dictated all things. But, eventually, the people turned upon their beloved Planet their backs to the ways of worship and voice. In vengeance the Planet removed their aptitude to ever be able to speak with her again. Never again, for such infidelity, would the peoples be allowed to have contact with their once-loved Planet. Over time, the people would forget that they ever could speak with the Planet, and be left with the inability to ask for forgiveness. Disease came forth, along with grief, suffering, and other plagues of all sorts. Some tried to turn back, but the Planet refused them, and they were deceased and returned to the cycle of Life, to be renewed in a new life that would better suit their counterfeit personalities. The Planet however, forgave, and the lives of the corrupted were sparred. But not all however, as some refused to turn back, and succumbed to their own greediness, and came forth the new Era. The Era in which the people live in corrupt and seek nothing but power and wealth. Such people the Planet would never turn to aid, unlike their forbearing ancestors.
ShinRa... the company which the Planet defined as corrupt. With its malicious greed powered by the sole president, they built the machine of destruction that would drink of the Planet like a vampire for blood. Retaliation for the Planet’s negligence of the peoples, its life being sucked away and into the products of the major cooperation ShiRa, the once harmless weapon manufacturing company, and now the malicious energy plant that fed sources to its entire city surrounding, Midgar. All of which from the Planet, and for years the people lived in ignorance, and eventually, the souls that were reborn from the ancestors that were forgiven for their false beliefs, arose to fight against ShinRa and stop it in its wake to destroy and suffocate the Planet altogether.
But the Planet was already dying. Slowly but surely, the Planet was giving away its final breathes of lively air, succumbing to which it cannot power against, and withering away into nothing, the green and life upon the great Gaia that the peoples once called their beloved home dispersing into dead hard cold rock. Slowly but surely, the Planet would be no longer.
But greed could not be done by justice alone. And in the fear of being put down for good, to let go upon their grasp of the Planet’s throat, ShinRa returned fire with a weapon of their own. Innocent ignorant beings corrupted by the very blood of the Planet itself…
